Not a Cent

Home

Not a Cent was created to mobilize those who are unwilling to accept the use of torture, for any reason, by the United States government.  This issue goes to our most basic principles, and our most basic rights.

We believe that the Constitution is more than just a "goddamned piece of paper."  We believe that, in the words of Benjamin Franklin, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security."

We do not want our government engaging in illegal torture.  We not only expect more, we demand more.  We believe that individual actions, taken collectively, can make a difference.

What We Do

Much is made of the role that money plays in politics today.  In short, money talks.  But if money talks, the opposite also must be true.

"Reverse contributions" occur when individuals stop writing checks and start writing letters.

Members of the Not a Cent movement pledge that they will not give a cent to any public official or candidate who will not denounce unequivocally the use of torture by the United States. Regardless of agreement on other issues, Not a Cent members will not support, and actively will work against, any official or candidate who will not pledge to take all steps necessary to ensure that the United States does not engage in torture.

Not a Cent to those who will not stand up to stop the use of torture.
